Tour Overview

The Kedarnath and Badrinath Yatra is one of the most sacred journeys a Hindu pilgrim can undertake — a soul-stirring ascent into the high Himalayas to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva at Kedarnath and Lord Vishnu at Badrinath. The Kedarnath Temple, approximately 1,200 years old, stands at an elevation of 3,583 metres and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Badrinath, or Badrinarayana Temple, is one of the sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites and one of the 108 DivyaDesams — holy shrines revered by the Vaishnava tradition.

Due to extreme Himalayan weather, both temples are open to devotees only between the months of April and November each year. The Yatra begins and ends at Delhi Airport and includes spiritually enriching halts at the holy city of Haridwar — one of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) of Hinduism — and the world Yoga capital, Rishikesh, home to revered ashrams on the banks of the Ganga.

This itinerary is ideal for devotees, pilgrims, spiritual travellers and families who wish to complete the Do Dham Yatra comfortably with private transportation, well-selected accommodation and experienced on-ground guidance throughout.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

  1. ✈️ Arrive at Delhi International Airport (DEL) and be warmly welcomed by our company representative at the arrivals hall. Delhi is the national capital of India and one of the most vibrant, historically layered cities in the country. You will be transferred to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is free for rest and preparation for the sacred Himalayan Yatra that lies ahead. Our representative will brief you on the itinerary, packing essentials and trekking requirements for Kedarnath.

    🌙 Overnight at Delhi hotel
  2. 🚆 After breakfast, depart by private vehicle for Haridwar — one of India's seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) and the gateway to the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. Haridwar, meaning "Gateway to God", sits on the western bank of the holy River Ganga as it descends from the Himalayas onto the plains. Upon arrival, check in to the hotel. In the afternoon, visit the hilltop Chandi Devi Temple, dedicated to Goddess Chandi. In the evening, make your way to the Har Ki Pauri Ghat for the mesmerising Ganga Aarti ceremony — a nightly ritual of lamps, chanting and devotion at the banks of the Ganga that is one of India's most powerful spiritual experiences.

    🌙 Overnight at Haridwar hotel
  3. 🌊 Rise early for a sacred dip in the holy Ganga at Har Ki Pauri Ghat — a deeply purifying start to the mountain Yatra. After check-out, drive toward Gaurikund — the base camp for the Kedarnath trek. En route, stop at Devprayag, the holy confluence where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet to form the sacred Ganga. The drive passes through the stunning Rudraprayag and Sonprayag valleys, with mountain scenery growing more dramatic with every kilometre. Upon arrival at Gaurikund, check in to the hotel, rest and prepare your essentials for tomorrow's trek to Kedarnath.

Note: Gaurikund is the last motorable point for Kedarnath. Carry light luggage for the trek. Mule rides and porter services are available at your own cost.

    🌙 Overnight at Gaurikund hotel
  4. 🏔 The most spiritually significant day of the Yatra. Rise before dawn and begin the 19 km Kedarnath trek from Gaurikund (1,982 m) to Kedarnath Temple (3,583 m) — a journey through alpine meadows, glacier streams and breathtaking Himalayan terrain. You may choose to trek on foot, hire a pony (horse) ride or a porter-carried doli at your own cost — all arrangements can be made at the trek base. Upon reaching Kedarnath, seek the blessings of Lord Shiva at the ancient Jyotirlinga temple, believed to be established by Adi Shankaracharya. The stone temple set against the towering backdrop of the Himalayas is an awe-inspiring sight. After darshan, begin the return trek to Gaurikund for the overnight stay.

Note: Helicopter services to Kedarnath are available from Phata / Sersi / Sitapur helipads subject to weather and availability (at own cost). Please consult our team in advance if you prefer this option.

    🌙 Overnight at Gaurikund hotel
  5. 📿 After breakfast, drive from Gaurikund to Badrinath via the important Himalayan town of Joshimath — the winter seat of Badrinath and home to the Shankaracharya Math. Badrinath (elevation: 3,133 m) is one of the four sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites and the most celebrated Vaishnava shrine in the Himalayas. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu as Badrinarayana, flanked by the twin mountain ranges of Nar and Narayan with the towering Neelkanth Peak forming a magnificent backdrop. The name comes from "Badri Van" — the forest of wild berries that once blanketed this region. In the evening, attend the deeply moving Badrinath Temple Aarti — a sacred ritual accompanied by Vedic chants and the aroma of flowers and incense.

    🌙 Overnight at Badrinath hotel
  6. 🍮 After the auspicious early morning Badrinath Pooja and darshan, check out from the hotel and begin the long but scenic drive down toward Rishikesh — the world's Yoga capital and one of the holiest cities along the Ganga. The journey descends through Himalayan valleys, river gorges and mountain passes. Upon arrival in Rishikesh, check in to the hotel. In the evening, head to the sacred Triveni Ghat — where three holy rivers (Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati) are believed to meet — for the beautiful Ganga Aarti ceremony as lamps float on the sacred river at dusk.

    🌙 Overnight at Rishikesh hotel
  7. 📿 After breakfast, explore Rishikesh — a city where spirituality, adventure and nature converge on the banks of the Ganga. Visit the iconic Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula — the twin suspension bridges over the Ganga lined with temples and ashrams. Stroll through the serene Swarg Ashram area and visit the internationally renowned Parmarth Niketan — one of the largest ashrams in India, offering a profound glimpse into India's spiritual heritage. Spend some time at Triveni Ghat for a final blessing before departure. In the afternoon, check out and drive back to Delhi. Upon arrival, check in to the hotel for the last overnight stay.

    🌙 Overnight at Delhi hotel

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Due to extreme Himalayan weather conditions, both Kedarnath and Badrinath temples are open to the general public only between April and November each year. The exact opening dates (usually after Akshaya Tritiya for Badrinath and Shiva Panchami for Kedarnath) are announced annually. May, June and September–October are the most popular months for the Yatra. We strongly advise booking well in advance as accommodation in the Char Dham region fills up quickly.
  • The Kedarnath Trek is 19 km one way from Gaurikund. You are not obligated to trek — pony (horse) rides, porter-carried doli (palanquin) and government-regulated helicopter services from Phata, Sersi and Sitapur helipads are available at your own cost. Helicopter booking is subject to availability and weather, and should be arranged in advance. For elderly pilgrims or those with health concerns, the helicopter or doli option is highly recommended.
  • Yes, with appropriate planning. Senior citizens can comfortably complete the Yatra using helicopter or doli services for the Kedarnath segment, avoiding the 19 km trek. Families with children should ensure children are physically fit for high-altitude travel. All travellers should carry altitude sickness medication (consult your doctor), warm layered clothing and appropriate footwear. Our team will advise on all packing requirements and arrange suitable alternatives for anyone with mobility concerns.
  • Carry warm layered clothing (temperatures drop sharply at Kedarnath even in summer), waterproof jacket, sturdy non-slip trekking shoes, gloves, a light daypack with water bottle, energy snacks, a torch and personal medication. Keep your main luggage at the hotel in Gaurikund and carry only essentials for the trek. Do not carry large suitcases on the trek — porter services are available for small bags at nominal charges.
  • Absolutely. We can extend this tour into the full Char Dham Yatra (adding Yamunotri and Gangotri), include an extra night at Rishikesh, add Delhi sightseeing, upgrade hotel categories, or incorporate helicopter bookings for Kedarnath. Group Yatra packages with special rates for 10+ pilgrims are also available. WhatsApp or email us and we will tailor a personalised itinerary and quote for you within 2 hours.
